The State Department has temporarily paused visa services at U.S. embassies in Juba, Kinshasa and Kampala, citing the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the region.

The pause took effect on May 18, 2026, and applies to both immigrant and nonimmigrant visa services, according to the department’s notice.

The action comes one day after the World Health Organization said the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda constituted a public health emergency of international concern.

The State Department also updated travel advisories for the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan on May 17 to reflect the outbreak.

The department has not yet said how long the pause will last or when visa scheduling will resume.
