Severe storms knocked out power for more than 2,200 Consumers Energy customers in Midland County on Wednesday evening, and 466 customers were still without service Thursday morning. The utility estimated restoration by 8:15 p.m. Thursday.

Severe storms that moved through Mid-Michigan on Wednesday evening left hundreds of customers in the Midland area without power Thursday morning, according to Consumers Energy.

The utility reported at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, June 11, that 466 customers were still without electricity in Midland County. At the peak of the outage Wednesday night, more than 2,200 customers in the county were without power.

Consumers Energy estimated that service would be restored by 8:15 p.m. Thursday.

Storm damage and outages

The outages followed storms that brought heavy rain, lightning and damaging winds across the region. Customers still affected Thursday morning were in Midland, Sanford, Hemlock, Freeland and Auburn.

Consumers Energy urged residents to stay away from downed power lines and report them as dangerous.

More storms possible

The National Weather Service forecast additional thunderstorms through early Friday morning, with gusts up to 31 mph and rainfall of a tenth to a quarter of an inch. That means crews could still face weather-related delays as they work to restore service.

The Midland outage is part of a busy storm period for the region, where restoration timing and the risk of new outages remain the main concerns for residents and utility crews alike.
