Taiwan says China deployed more than 100 vessels in regional waters

Taiwan said China has deployed more than 100 navy, coast guard and other vessels across regional waters, in a report carried by AFP and regional outlets on Saturday.

According to the report, the vessels were spread across waters stretching from the Yellow Sea to the South China Sea and the Western Pacific.

AFP said the number rose to more than 100 after the Trump-Xi summit ended. The report was then syndicated by outlets including The Straits Times and Arab News.

Taiwan has not said whether it expects further movement or whether Beijing has publicly responded to the claim.

The deployment adds to existing tensions in the region, where China has regularly increased its maritime and air presence around Taiwan and in nearby waters.
