Tanzania’s latest investment report shows mining and quarrying still dominate foreign direct investment, while manufacturing ranks second and agriculture trails far behind.
Tanzania’s mining and quarrying sector remains the country’s biggest draw for foreign direct investment, according to the Tanzania Investment Report 2025.
The report, cited by The Citizen and supported by official Bank of Tanzania and National Bureau of Statistics material, shows mining and quarrying as the largest recipient of FDI stock. The sector’s stock rose to $9.79 billion in 2024, up from $9.15 billion in 2023 and $8.64 billion in 2022.
The United Kingdom is reported as the leading source of foreign capital, with $5.82 billion in FDI stock in 2024. Official report data also showed mining and quarrying as the largest contributor to FDI inflows in 2023, while Mauritius led inflows that year.
Manufacturing ranked second among recipient sectors, and agriculture remained far behind, underscoring how heavily foreign investors continue to favor extractives over broader parts of the economy.
The NBS advance release calendar had listed the Tanzania Investment Report 2025 for publication on March 30, 2026, and the new figures are now adding fresh detail to Tanzania’s investment picture.
