TxDOT to close northbound I-35 at Walzem Road for overnight work

TxDOT plans to close northbound I-35 at Walzem Road overnight Tuesday as work continues on the I-35 NEX expansion on San Antonio’s Northeast Side.

The closure is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. Tuesday and reopen at 5 a.m. Wednesday, according to reporting by the San Antonio Express-News. Drivers heading north on I-35 will be detoured via Randolph Boulevard and the northbound frontage road.

The traffic alert is part of a larger series of overnight construction closures tied to the long-running corridor project.

Nearby overnight closures

TxDOT also plans additional overnight closures in the same area, including nearby southbound frontage-road and ramp segments. Those include a southbound I-35 to southbound Loop 410 movement and a stretch south of the Fratt Road entrance ramp.

The closures are expected to affect commuters and other drivers using the Northeast Side corridor, where lane shifts and detours can quickly cause congestion and route confusion.
