TxDOT to shut down I-35 lanes near Forum Parkway for bridge work

TxDOT will close northbound I-35 at Forum Parkway overnight Friday, June 19, as crews continue bridge work tied to the I-35 Northeast Expansion project on San Antonio's Northeast Side.

The closure is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Friday and end at 7 a.m. Saturday, June 20. TxDOT says the work is needed for bridge beam installation.

Drivers will be detoured off northbound I-35 at Olympia Parkway and onto the northbound frontage road during the shutdown.

Where the closure is happening

The shutdown affects a stretch of northbound I-35 just north of Loop 1604, near The Forum and IKEA.

The corridor has already seen repeated NEX-related construction and traffic disruptions as TxDOT continues work on the highway expansion.

What drivers should expect

The closure is likely to slow traffic on nearby frontage roads and other Northeast Side routes used by commuters and shoppers.

TxDOT's reopening target is 7 a.m. Saturday, but as with any overnight construction work, that could change if conditions force a delay.

Officials have not announced any additional lane or ramp closures for the same window.
