Warrington beat Leigh 42-6 on Saturday to go top of Super League on points difference after a dominant home display.
Warrington Wolves moved to the top of Super League on points difference after a commanding 42-6 win over Leigh Leopards on Saturday.
BBC Sport reported that the contest was effectively settled early, with Warrington leading 24-0 at half-time at the Halliwell Jones Stadium. The home side never let Leigh back into the match and finished with a comfortable victory in the top-of-the-table fixture.
The result lifts Warrington above their rivals in the league standings, although their place at the summit could still depend on the rest of the round. It was nevertheless a statement win in a game billed as a major test for both sides.
According to syndicated BBC copy carried by Yahoo Sports, Warrington’s tries came from Josh Smith, Matty Ashton twice, James Bentley, Joe Philbin, George Williams and Sam Powell. Marc Sneyd added seven goals. Leigh’s only points came from Adam Cook.
Official club and Super League pages confirmed the fixture and its timing, with the match kicking off at 3:00pm. The scale of the victory underlined Warrington’s control from the outset and left Leigh with little chance of responding.
For Warrington, the win is one of their most important of the season so far: a home demolition of a direct rival and a route to the top of the table.
