Wegovy pill tops 3 million prescriptions as Novo Nordisk touts ADA 2026 data

Novo Nordisk said its Wegovy pill has surpassed 3 million U.S. prescriptions since the oral obesity drug launched on January 5, 2026.

The company said the milestone works out to roughly one prescription filled every five seconds. It also said more than 80% of new Wegovy pill prescriptions are going to people who were previously untreated with GLP-1 therapy.

The announcement gives Novo Nordisk a fresh commercial marker for the oral version of Wegovy, which the company has positioned as a broader way to reach adults with obesity.

ADA 2026 tie-in

Novo Nordisk linked the prescription update to new data it plans to highlight at the American Diabetes Association's 2026 meeting and to an investor event on June 7.

The company did not provide independent market verification of the prescription total in its release, but the figure was published in an official statement and distributed through wire services the same day.

The milestone follows the pill's U.S. launch in early January and suggests the oral formulation is already drawing a meaningful share of first-time GLP-1 users.
