The Town of Wellesley said its Municipal Light Plant asked customers to minimize electric use during the 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. peak period on May 19 because very high temperatures were expected.
The alert, posted on May 18, also pointed residents to the town's heat-safety guidance and its Shave the Peak program, which is designed to reduce summer electricity demand during the highest-use hours.
According to the town, customers were asked to reduce air conditioner use, turn off EV chargers and other appliances when possible, switch off unnecessary lights, and keep windows and curtains closed to help limit indoor heat gain.
The town said residents who want future peak-demand notifications can request them by emailing shavethepeak@wellesleyma.gov.
Massachusetts officials also provide general guidance on staying safe during extreme heat, including limiting strenuous activity and taking steps to stay cool and hydrated.
