Gallup's 2026 workplace report says Europe has the lowest engagement globally, while Greece, Malta and Cyprus record the highest stress levels in Europe.

Europe's workers are among the most stressed in the world, according to Gallup's latest State of the Global Workplace report.

Gallup says Europe has the lowest employee engagement of any region globally, at 12%. The report also says 39% of workers in Europe experienced a lot of stress the previous day.

Within Europe, the highest reported stress levels were in Greece, Malta, Cyprus, Italy and Spain. Gallup's regional data, as highlighted in a Euronews explainer published on Wednesday, puts Greece at 61%, Malta at 57%, Cyprus at 56%, Italy at 51% and Spain at 47%.

The report covers more than 160 countries and areas using data collected during 2025. It also shows that stress remains widespread across the global workforce.

Gallup's findings point to a persistent gap between employee engagement and wellbeing in Europe, with stress levels far above the region's engagement score.
