The Leapfrog Group’s spring 2026 hospital safety grades show a mixed picture for the New York City area, with several major systems earning A grades and a handful of hospitals landing Ds.

Leapfrog released the new grades on May 6. In the days that followed, NYU Langone, Catholic Health and NewYork-Presbyterian all said their eligible hospitals had earned top marks.

NYU Langone said Tisch Hospital, the Helen L. and Martin S. Kimmel Pavilion, NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn and NYU Langone Hospital-Long Island each received an A. The system said that marked its 12th consecutive A grade for those inpatient locations.

Catholic Health said St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center, St. Charles Hospital, St. Catherine of Siena Hospital and Mercy Hospital each earned an A. The Long Island system said St. Francis Hospital received its 17th consecutive and 27th overall A.

NewYork-Presbyterian said all eligible NYP hospitals earned A grades in the spring 2026 cycle.

At the other end of the scale, local coverage identified several hospitals that received D grades, including Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, Interfaith Medical Center, Nassau University Medical Center and St. John’s Episcopal Hospital.

Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Grade is based on patient-safety indicators such as errors, injuries and infections. The new results give patients another snapshot of how hospitals in the region compare on safety metrics, even as individual systems point to their own high marks.
